U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issues 8th CRISPR patent to CVC July 16, 2019

On July 16, 2019 the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office issued U.S. Patent No. 10,351,878 (‘the ‘878 patent) to The Regents of the University of California, the University of Vienna, and Dr. Emmanuelle Charpentier (collectively, “CVC”). The patent covers methods of producing a genetically modified cell through the introduction of the Cas9 protein, or a nucleic acid encoding the Cas9 protein, as well as a single molecule DNA-targeting RNA. The ‘878 patent claims earlist priority to a U.S. provisional application, filed by CVC on May 25, 2012.
